One popular legend tells of a poor tea farmer who would offer tea each morning to an iron statue of the Goddess of Mercy in a small, worn-down temple. One night, she appeared to him in a dream and revealed a hidden treasure behind the temple—a single, extraordinary tea shoot meant to be shared. When he found it the next day, he nurtured it carefully and shared it with others in his village. From then on, the tea became known as Tie Guan Yin 铁观音.
