Da Hong Pao 大红袍, meaning "Big Red Robe", is a highly prized oolong tea with several legendary origin stories. The most popular tale involves a scholar traveling to Beijing for the imperial exam. He fell ill and was restored back to health with the help of a monk who treated him to this special tea made from the Wuyi Mountain bushes. Upon passing the exam with the highest score, he returned to thank the monk, and subsequently used the same tea to cure the emperor's illness. As a reward, the emperor sent a red robe to be draped over the tea bushes, hence the name "Big Red Robe".
